CS LoxInfo Plc (CSL), the internet-service arm of InTouch Group, is building a new 350-million-baht data centre in a bold move to capitalise on growing demand.

Managing director Anant Kaewruamvongs said the 3,000-square-metre facility on Kaset-Nawamin Road in Bangkok will begin operations in April.

A data centre is a facility used to house computer systems and associated components such as telecoms and storage systems.

It generally includes redundant or back-up power supplies, redundant data communications connections, environmental controls and various security devices.

Mr Anant said the second-phase expansion of the new data centre is planned for the next two years depending on the demand growth.

Construction of the new data centre is also aimed at serving cloud-based storage services on mobile devices for Advanced Info Service, InTouch's mobile-phone flagship.

Mr Anant said data centre service is expected to become CSL's key revenue source in the near future despite the service contributing 10% of total revenue.

Thailand's data centre market has grown an average of 20% annually.

However, he said internet service would remain CSL's core revenue generating 60% of the total.

Information and communications technology solutions service made up 30% of total revenue.

Mr Anant said for YellowPage, the phone directory operations, will focus on providing advertising, integrating print and web via mobile phones, a new dimension of print ads industry.

The company will continue giving priority to publishing various new vertical books including Aroi for Bangkok, factory and builder guides ass well as fashion and accessories guides.

For voice and mobile content services, CSL will increase the variety of products and services, apart from existing SMS services for entertainment and sports news.

Mr Anant expressed concerned over the prolonged political impasse, saying it is threatening many businesses and impeding new IT investment.

Shares of CSL closed yesterday on the Stock Exchange of Thailand unchanged at 10.10 baht in trade worth 2.62 million baht.
