Mae Sot gets new elephant sculptures

The Department of Rural Roads has completed a 13.5km road project in Mae Sot as part of an investment which cost 450 million baht.

The road expansion is part of the government's special economic zone to facilitate logistics in the border city between Thailand and Myanmar.

The project starts from a new roundabout or KM 0+000 of Ngo 2, Ngo 3, Kho1 and Kho2 roads. The roundabout has two sculptures of white elephants, or chang phueak in Thai, surrounded by green plants in a decorative garden. It is known as "Wongwian Khok Chang Phueak" meaning a roundabout of a white elephant pen.

The roundabout is located not far from Tambon Administrative Organisation of Tha Sai Luat and Wat Phrathat Khok Chang Phueak.

The department expects that the elephant sculptures will become popular and known as a new tourism landmark in Mae Sot.
