UTTARADIT: Two young men were arrested by narcotics suppression police after they picked up 110,000 methamphetamine pills stashed by a drug trafficking gang at a spot in Muang district early on Sunday.

Pol Maj Gen Tinnarat Phetphansri, the provincial police chief, said police officers were deployed to lie in wait following a tipoff that couriers would pick up drugs left at the foot of a power pole in a soi by Triam Udom Nomklao School in tambon Pha Chuk.

At about 4.50am, two men arrived on a motorcycle and picked up a large black plastic bag. Police officers emerged from hiding to arrest them.

The two were identified as Natdanai Patan, 19, and Ithipol Khwakhan, 22, both of Nam Pat district.

The plastic bag contained 55 bundles of 110,000 meth pills.

In initial questioning, the two men reportedly said they were to transport the drugs to an orchard in Lap Lae district for further distribution to clients in Uttaradit.
