SONGKHLA: More than 3,000 counterfeit brand-name garments worth over 4 million baht have been seized from a booth at a popular department store mall in downtown Hat Yai district.

The booth at Lee Garden Plaza in the business area of Hat Yai was raided on Wednesday by a team of Economic Crime Suppression Division police, soldiers, officials from the Intellectual Property Department and the provincial commerce office.

They confiscated more than 3,000 items of clothing with fake brand names including Adidas, Nike and Under Armour.

Police said the clothing had been smuggled in from China and was being sold at half the price of the real brands.

Ms Panisa Sunthornkarnwirot, 26, caretaker of the booth, was taken to Hat Yai police station for legal action.
