Bangkok bar owner arrested in boys-for-sex case

Police raided a four-storey bar in Bangkok Noi district late Thursday night and arrested the owner on charges of operating without a license and providing sexual services by boys.

Napatyos Emasit, 40, was detained during the raid on Bang Makok pub which followed an investigation by local police and the Metropolitan Police Bureau's Welfare of Women and Children Division, according to Thai media reports

The bar, located in front of Charansanitwong soi 34/2, was suspected of being a front for sexual services by boys under 18 years.

On the premises authorities found five boys aged 13-17 who were reportedly employed as waiters. Their parents were contacted to take them home.

Mr Napatyos denied the venue provided sex services to customers and claimed the customers came with company.

According to police, the ground floor housed a bar with four tables while the upper floors had six rooms. Found on the premises were large numbers of condoms and cans of sniffing glue.

Police said the venue did not openly operate as a bar, judging from the way the operator kept the door half open. It was known to a limited of customers using social media.

The suspect was charged with operating a bar without a permit and arranging for the provision of sexual services by boys.
