SAMUT PRAKAN: A man aged 47 was arrested at Suvarnabhumi airport for stealing a purse containing cash worth about 70,000 baht from a forgetful Nepalese traveller.

Kittipong Kittikachorn, deputy director of Suvarnabhumi airport, said on Friday that Rinrarak Parinpong from Nakhon Ratchasima province was arrested at the Magic food centre on the first floor of the passenger terminal on Thursday evening.

He had just returned from a brief trip abroad.

Mr Kittipong said the purse and money belonged to a Nepalese woman who lost the purse on Monday. She filed a complaint with police at the airport via email after leaving the country and realising she had lost it. She said it contained about 70,000 baht in mixed currencies.

Police learned from surveillance camera footage that she forgot the purse after stopping to re-arrange her bag on a bench on the second floor of the terminal. A man later passed by, saw the purse, sat down and then left with it.

Police showed the footage to Mr Rinrarak when they arrested him at the canteen.
