A 37-year-old woman on Monday asked police to take action against a beauty clinic in the Silom area for a severe infection caused by breast filler that had flowed into her abdomen.
Nawarat Kongbamrung, a former bank employee, arrived at the Crime Suppression Division with her lawyer to file her complaint, seeking the prosecution of the unidentified clinic for alleged fraud and reckless procedures causing severe injury.
According to her lawyer Saranya Wangsukcharoen, Miss Nawarat paid 120,000 baht for breast-filler injections in 2012. The clinic claimed the injections were safe.
In 2014, Miss Nawarat suffered from a painfully swollen lower abdomen. She was diagnosed at the clinic as having pus and breast filler in her lower abdomen.
She was charged 60,000 baht for the suction procedure to remove it. The clinic also convinced her to have her breasts enlarged with silicone, at a cost of 100,000 baht.
Last year Miss Nawarat was pregnant and had a caesarean delivery. Surgeons told her there was a large amount of filler in her abdomen. She sought additional treatment at hospital to clear it, and had to pay 500,000 baht.
The beauty clinic then paid her 150,000 baht in compensation in exchange for her written promise not to take legal action. Miss Nawarat had to accept the deal because she was in financial trouble.
Miss Nawarat said that she had problems after giving birth because she had to stop breastfeeding her baby after only a month, so she could receive further treatment.
She had chosen the clinic because she learned from advertisements that many actresses went there for beauty treatment.
