A 28-year-old man has surrendered to police and confessed to involvement in the gang shootout that took the life of an Indian tourist and left four other people wounded in Ratchathewi district on Sunday night.
Pol Maj Gen Katcha Thatsat, acting deputy Bangkok police commissioner, said on Tuesday the man was Preecha Sak-udompaisal, also known as Tam Tuekdaeng.
The man confessed to being one of the shooters. There were others too. Police were applying for court warrants for the arrest of five other suspects, Pol Maj Gen Katcha said.
The shootout in a parking lot behind the Watergate Pavilion mall on Soi Ratchaprarop 2 arose from a conflict between two gangs, he said.
Mr Preecha was supervising the new snooker club. That frustrated Banpen Poompuang, 23, a local influential figure, who sent henchmen to threaten Mr Preecha on several occasions.
Police charged Mr Preecha with murder. He surrendered at Phaya Thai police station on Monday night.
Stray bullets killed an Indian tourist who was leaving a nearby restaurant and injured four people - another Indian visitor and a Lao national, and two Thais.
