Pattaya Remand Prison treated a Belarusian sex-trainer arrested in the seaside resort town last year just like any other female inmate, the Corrections Department chief said on Friday.
Pol Col Naras Savestanan was responding to a CNN interview with Anastasia Vashukevich in which she described her year in a Thai prison as “Hell’’ and said she had contemplated suicide if she was handed a lengthy sentence.
Vashukevich had been held in custody since a police raid on a sex-training course at a hotel last February.
The Pattaya Provincial Court convicted her and seven co-defendants after they suddenly entered pleas of guilty to multiple charges including solicitation and illegal assembly.
The Belarusian escort claimed last year after her arrest that she had evidence that Russia helped Donald Trump get elected US president. She was deported from Thailand on Jan 17, police said.
Pol Col Naras said Pattaya prison officials abided by the rules, treating Vashuvekich the same way the other female inmates were treated. However, she showed resistance and did not abide by prison regulations.
Prison officials had to warn her to pay heed to the rules. This upset her and she often traded barbs with officials. The prison reported her conduct to the embassy constantly. Other inmates in the same case had abided by prison rules, he said.
Over the past years, the department had treated all inmates equally in accordance with their human rights. Several services had been improved, such as access to medical treatment. The department continuously paid attention to inmates' living conditions, Pol Col Naras said.
