KHON KAEN: An attempted-rape suspect, 30, was admitted to Khon Kaen hospital with a cracked skull and brain haemorrhage caused during an assault by the victim’s rescuers.

Pol Capt Khattiya Poldongnok of the Chum Phae station said on Thursday police could not bring Khanchit Saenwiang, 30, to a local court for a detention extension but had to send him to a hospital because he suffered a severe headache.

A medical examination showed the man had a skull fracture and brain haemorrhage, the deputy inspector of the station said.

The man, a native of Chaiyaphum province, was stopped by four people while he was trying to rape a 23-year-old woman in shrubs along Maliwan Road in Chum Phae district at about 3am on Wednesday.

The four who were passing by on their vehicle saw the incident and assaulted him, causing the severe injuries.

"The suspect has the right to file a complaint against the good samaritans but they could argue they took action to help another person without personal anger. It's up to the court," Pol Capt Khattiya said.

The 23-year-old victim, a native of Chum Phae district, said on Wednesday that while she was riding her motorcycle from a pub alone, Mr Khanchit and another man approached her on another motorcycle. Mr Khanchit tried to stop her bike, which later fell, and then attacked her.

Pol Capt Khattiya said Mr Khanchit had been jailed for three years for attempted murder in Muang district of Khon Kaen in 2012.
