CP All on Tuesday announced an end to the sale of fresh draught beer at its 7-Eleven convenience stores in the face of strong opposition from prohibitionist networks.

The company announcement said the executive board had decided to close down the pilot project, which it launched at 18 stores in early October, after taking into consideration concerns expressed by several agencies.

The opposition included advocates from anti-alcohol groups who submitted a letter to CP All Plc criticising the sale of beer on tap at its convenience stores.

They argued this enabled easy access to alcohol by underage youths  and encouraged consumption of alcohol in general.

Health authorities also spoke out against the move.
