SURIN: Three suspects fleeing a murder case in a southern province were caught in Muang district after attending a wedding party of a friend in Ubon Ratchathani on Wednesday, after almost six months on the run.

The suspects were travelling when their van was stopped on Liang Muang Road in Surin’s Muang district by Crime Suppression Division police and local officers on Wednesday afternoon.

The CSD police had tracked down the suspects to a wedding party of their friends in Ubon Ratchathani’s Det Udom district.  After the celebrations, the suspects left in the van and were later caught in neighbouring Surin province.

The three men -- Saeng-arthit Kaewkliang, Picha Damfai and Jirasak Damfai -- were wanted on arrest warrants issued by the Phatthalung provincial court for premeditated murder and illegal possession of weapons.

They were among five suspects wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of Sawai Kaensang, 45, in Phatthalung province’s Pa Bon district on May 13.

The trio initially denied all charges. They were held in CSD custody before being handed over to local police in Phatthalung.
