BURI RAM: A 28-year-old man is recovering at a hospital after he tried to commit suicide on Sunday evening by drinking pesticide during a live video stream on Facebook, police said.
The account user, "Kang Krasang", was out of danger but remained under close medical supervision on Monday.
The man posted a picture of a bottle of pesticide and a message saying he was sorry for what he was about to do, but he had thought about it carefully and there was no turning back.
In the message, he said life had become meaningless. He said goodbye to his family and friends, offering his apologies and asking for forgiveness.
The man then drank what was believed to be pesticide "several times" in the live broadcast and passed out before the camera.
"Kang Krasang" posts that, "Life has become meaningless."
As he started streaming, the friends called police to report the suicide attempt. Police managed to locate him at a resort in Muang district and rushed the man to hospital.
According to police, the man is a resident of Huai Rat district, had several problems and felt bad about his life. It was not known if he will face any charges.
Livestreaming suicides have drawn comments of deep concern from both health experts and the broadcast regulator, especially about copycat behaviour.
In May a man from Nakhon Sawan livestreamed his suicide attempt by drinking pesticide before passing out in front of the camera. He was rescued after his friend saw his Facebook broadcast and reported it.
Before that, a man from Phetchabun province livestreamed his unsuccessful attempt to hang his 5-year-old girl.
The most shocking livestream was when a 21-year-old father hanged his 11-month-old daughter on the third floor of an abandoned building in Phuket and posted a broadcast of her last moments on his Facebook account. He then hanged himself.
