The entire of Hat Yai City of Songkhla province has been lit up for the coming Christmas and New Year.

The fountain circle, in particular, has been decorated with a large Christmas tree, a reindeer, boxes of Christmas gifts and colourful lights.

On the island in the middle of Phetkasem Road in front of the municipality office, a large arched gate decorated with flowers has been set up, completed with Christmas trees and Santa Claus.

The Hat Yai Municipality plans to keep the city illuminated until after the New Year to liven up the city's tourism atmosphere.

Witthaya Sae Lim, a professional guide, said Hat Yai City has been crowded with tourists from Malaysia and Singapore since November and this festive mood will continue until the New Year.

As Malaysia is now during a school vacation of about two months, family tours have continued to flow to Hat Yai.

It is believed at least 80 million baht will circulate daily in Hat Yai until the New Year, said the guide.
