Fire guts three Khao San shops

A fire ravaged three food and liquor shops near Khao San Road in Phra Nakhon district of Bangkok on Saturday evening, sending Thais and foreign tourists fleeing in panic. No injuries were reported.

The blaze began at Lotash Seed, a Japanese restaurant on Soi Rambutri in the Bang Lamphu area at around 4pm, Thai media reported.

Five trucks were deployed to the scene to combat the fire, which spread quickly to adjacent two-storey buildings housing a Thai restaurant and a liquor shop. Firefighters took about 30 minutes to douse the flames.

Police believe an electrical short circuit might have caused the blaze. They are investigating further.
