Fire at toy warehouse in Yaowarat, road closed

Ratchawong Road was closed to traffic on Monday afternoon as firefighters battled a blaze in a five-storey building used to store plastic toys in Bangkok's Yaowarat area.

Police and district authorities said the building was in Soi Poh Panich near Sampheng in Samphanthawong district. It belonged to Charoen Metta Shop and was used as a warehouse for plastic toys and ornamental parts.

The fire began about 2pm, quickly causing traffic congestion in Yaowarat. The area around the fire is packed with buildings, many of which were closed on Monday.

By late afternoon police said firefighters were succssfully preventing the flames from spreading to other buildings

There were no initial reports of any injury or death.
