SURAT THANI: A 35-year-old man has confessed to killing his psychotic, drug addled brother by tying him up and then tossing him into a village pond

The body of Apichart Nooduang, 33, was pulled from a public pond in tambon Sinpun late on Tuesday night by divers after his elder brother confessed to the deed.

The victim was wearing only a pair of trousers and his wrists were tied with a T-shirt  and his legs bound with nylon rope. A pushcart was also retrieved from the pond.

A search was launched after Apichart's family reported that he was missing from the house and they had been unable to find him, Pol Lt Col Somchai Raksrithong, investigation chief at Phrasaeng police station, said.

They came upon a 35-year-old man who claimed to be Apichart's elder brother on the way to the family house.

The man, identified only as Ek, told the police he had killed his younger brother and dumped his body in a pond about 500 metres from the house.

A team of divers sent to search the pond found his body and a pushcart in the water.

Ek told police that Apichart was mentally deranged from years of drug abuse, and was wild and out of control.

To end the problem, Ek said, he caught his younger brother and then tied his legs and hands. He put Apichart in the pushcart and then dumped it and him, still alive, into the pond.

The suspect was held in police custody for legal action.
