PATHUM THANI: There was traffic congestion on Rangsit-Nakhon Nayok Road near Klong 6 in Thanyaburi district early Friday after a beam dropped from a pedestrian bridge on to the roadway.

No injuries were reported in the incident, which occurred around 5am where workers were installing a new pedestrian bridge in front of a government-run medical facility for mental patients.

Construction workers had closed the road from 10pm Thursday to allow the bridge installation.

As two beams were being lifted, they collided and one dropped onto the road, striking the mobile crane in the process. Damage was being assessed.

Local police closed all lanes on the road so new cranes could be brought in to remove debris.

Detours were set up for motorists but heavy congestion was reported in the area.
