The roof of a busy bus stop in front of the headquarters of PTT Plc on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road collapsed in a rainstorm on Friday night. No-one was reported hurt.

Video showed the roof of the bus stop tilting and then crashing down beside a bus that had stopped to disgorge passengers, who rushed towards the shelter of the roof to escape the driving rain.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) reported flooding in Bang Phlad, Bang Sue, Dusit, Chatuchak, Laksi, Bang Khen, Phaya Thai and Din Daeng districts, causing heavy traffic congestion. Large crowds of commuters also flocked into electric train systems.

The City Hall said flooding remained on Phahon Yothin Road between Kasetsart and Sena intersections and on Ratchadaphesek Road between Ratchayothin and Ratchada Lat Phrao intersections at about 10pm.

The Meteorological Department predicted more rainstorms in the North, the East and the Central Plains - including greater Bangkok - in the next 24 hours.
