BURI RAM: Eight people were injured - five seriously - when five motorcycles slammed into a pick-up truck in front of a petrol station in Muang district late Saturday night.

Police said the accident occurred at about midnight. Five of about ten motorcycles speeding down the Buri Ram-Satuk road crashed into an Isuzu pick-up truck that cut in front of them while making a sudden right into a PTT petrol station.

The violent impact left six of the riders lying unconscious on the road. Five of them were seriously wounded and required cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The driver and another man in the pick-up were also wounded. All of the eight wounded were admitted to Buri Ram Hospital.

Wathit Kamchadturat, 15, who narrowly escaped the accident unhurt, said he was one of a group of teenagers on about ten motorbikes returning to Ban Dan district from Buri Ram town when the accident took place.

Police were investigating the accident and examining the footage of security surveillance cameras in the area.
