Graftbusters summon Najib for talks

KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Najib Razak has been summoned for questioning on Tuesday in a money-laundering investigation related to the state investment fund 1MDB.

An official with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, who declined to be identified because of the case's sensitivity, said the commission served a notice to Najib at his home on Friday requesting that he appear on Tuesday for questioning.

The official said Najib acknowledged the request. Najib's lawyer, Harpal Singh Grewal, said he was not aware of the summons but that Najib had earlier promised to cooperate with authorities.

The new government led by Mahathir Mohamad reopened the investigation into 1MDB, which is being investigated abroad, after defeating Najib's coalition in the May 9 election.

Police earlier Friday confiscated a huge haul of designer handbags, cash and jewellery in raids on apartments linked to Najib at a Kuala Lumpur condominium.
