NAKHON RATCHASIMA: An interprovincial passenger bus travelling from Bangkok to the Northeast plunged into a roadside ditch in Sida district of Nakhon Ratchasim province in the early hours of Wednesday, injuring 10 passengers.

Police said the bus was carrying at least 30 passengers and left Mor Chit bus terminal in Bangkok on Tuesday night for Nong Khai.

Driver Thongchai Chaikuad, 33, told police a truck cut right in front of him. When he tried to avert a collision he lost control of the bus, which veered off the road and into the tree lined ditch.

It crashed near kilometre marker 229-230 on the Mittraphap Highway No 2 around 2am.

Many passengers were not wearing their safety belts and the impact threw them out of their seats, causing them injuries. Ten passengers were rushed to Sida Hospital.

A bus was arranged to take the unhurt passengers to their destinations.

Police were investigating the exact cause of the accident.
