Sixty former nursing students of Christian University of Thailand in Nakhon Pathom province have filed a lawsuit with the Central Administrative Court, demanding 300,000-480,000 baht each in compensation from the university for its uncertified course.

Their representatives said the university admitted 360 students to its College of Nursing in the 2017 academic year.

It announced the list of admitted students on May 18, 2017 and new students paid for their course in the same year.

Early this year, potential applicants to the nursing college in the 2018 academic year told them that the Thailand Nursing and Midwifery Council had not certified its nursing curricula. The council even urged the university on May 19, 2017 to stop the admission in the past academic year.

The council and the Office of the Higher Education Commission already confirmed to students that the college's nursing curricula were not certified, meaning its students would not be either.

The 60 complainants subsequently resigned from the university, found new schools and decided to take the legal action.

Some students said they wasted two years because early this year the management of the university had promised to acquire certification for their curricula but admitted last month that they could not get it. Since most schools have already begun this year, they would have to apply in the next academic year.

The students said each of them had also paid tuition fees worth over 100,000 baht a year and other expenses including dormitory room rentals.
