CHIANG MAI: Former actor Warut "O" Woratham was pronounced dead at a hospital in this northern province at about 2.40am on Tuesday.

On Sunday night Warut, 49, had been rushed to Hang Dong Hospital after falling unconscious at his home in Hang Dong district.

He was admitted to the intensive care unit at Nakornping Hospital in Mae Rim district, where he failed to regain consciousness, was placed on a respirator and was found to have suffered renal failure.

Warut, a former actor, TV show host and heartthrob, was reportedly driven from the entertainment business by alcoholism.

His first gained success as a model and established his acting career in the role of Japanese soldier Kobori in the romantic-war film Khu Kam.

He reportedly had two children, from two different wives, and had separated from both.

He ran a restaurant and coffee shop in Hang Dong and had recently made an attempt to return to the entertainment business.

The funeral was set for Tuesday evening at Wat Phra Singh in Muang district.
