Songkhla: A suspected militant was shot and killed and two others arrested following a clash with security officers in Thepha district, local officials said.

The clash took place at 1am on Monday when the officers led by the 43rd Ranger Task Force were investigating a tip-off that a suspected militant was hiding in a community in tambon Sakom.

Found dead after the shoot-out was Madamoh Semsan, 40, who was wanted in connection with a robbery of six pickup trucks at a used car shop, Wang To Car Centre, in Na Thawi district of Songkhla last year.

Two others were detained after the clash and handed over to Pattani for further questioning. They have yet to be identified.

The high-profile showroom thefts took place in August last year when an insurgent group stole a pickup truck from a couple in Pattani's Yarang district.

The truck was then used by about 10 people to travel to the used car shop in Songkhla where they made off with six trucks and abducted four people. One hostage was killed and one was injured while two others were unharmed.
