83 test positive for drugs during Bangkok pub raid

Eighty-three customers tested positive for drugs during a police raid on a pub in Bangkok’s Lat Krabang district in the early hours of Friday.

Officers from the Patrol and Special Operation Division and Chalong Krung police station entered Klem pub on Soi Chalong Krung 13 in Lat Krabang district around 1.30am.

More than 200 patrons were still drinking and dancing inside. Staff were ordered to turn off all the lights and stop all activities.

All customers and pub staff were asked to undergo urine tests for drug use, and 83 customers tested positive.

Police also said 57 customers were found to be below the legal of age of 20, Thai media reported.

Chakkree Wanrakchart told police he was the manager the pub. He was detained on charges of operating and entertainment venue without a permit, selling alcohol outside legal hours, selling alcoholic drinks to people aged below 20, and encouraging youths to behave inappropriately.  

Mr Chakkree and the 83 drug-positive customers were taken to Chalong Krung police station for legal action.

Four senior officers at Chalong Krung police station were later transfered to inactive posts by Pol Lt Gen Sutthipong Wongpin, acting chief of the Metropolitan Police Bureau.

They were shunted to the bureau’s operations centre.

The four officers are: Pol Lt Col Pradit Taprasitjit, deputy chief responsible for investigation and acting chief of Chalong Krung police station; Pol Lt Col Niran Khemprasert, crime suppression chief, and his deputy Pol Lt Col Pitipong Montha; and  Pol Lt Col Warakorn Chaiyawong, investigation chief.

The police station chief, Pol Col Kongchart Kliangsomsap, was on authorised leave.
