CHIANG RAI: Police seized 3.5 million methamphetamine pills found hidden on a roadside in Phaya Mengrai district on Tuesday morning.

The drugs were found by police teams patrolling secondary routes often used by smugglers between villages in tambon Mae Pao.

Seventeen fertiliser sacks were found concealed in dense grass near an intersection in village Moo 1. The sacks held 3.5 million speed pills in total, weighing about 417 kilogrammes. There was nobody else in the area at the time.

The drugs were assumed to have been smuggled across the border and hidden for later collection and distribution to dealers.
