Unrelenting downpours are bringing floodwater to Bang Saphan Noi district in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, making the main road linking Bangkok and the southern region impassable to small vehicles.
Rescue units and road users on Wednesday posted messages and photos on Twitter showing floods in the district town and Phetkasem Road at kilometre marker 401 in tambon Chang Raek.
The traffic police radio advised motorists in small vehicles to avoid the road, especially on the southbound lanes heading to southern provinces. "Small vehicles should not use Phetkasem Road at kilometre marker 401," it tweeted.
Heavy rains have pounded Bang Saphan Noi since Wednesday night.
Located on low terrains, Bang Saphan Noi and neighbouring Bang Saphan district are prone to flooding after heavy rain. The situation could be worsened by water run-off from the Tanaosri mountain range to the West bordering Myanmar.
Bang Saphan district was severely flooded in November last year, which temporarily paralysed traffic to the southern region.

Suraphol Srimontha, mayor of the Tambon Chang Raek Administration Organisation, told Thairath online water from Tanaosri flew into the tambon and villages were advised to evacuate to high ground.
Dr Samart Theerasak, the provincial public health office chief who was in Bang Saphan Noi, said the health promotion hospital in tambon Sri Nakhon was flooded but the main hospital in the district has not been affected.
The flooding might not end soon. The Meteorological Department warned of heavy rains in Prachuap Khiri Khan and most areas in the southern region through Saturday.
