CHACHOENGSAO: A speeding driver fleeing the scene of an accident was killed when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into two other cars and a fried banana stall in Phanom Sarakham district on Wednesday.

Several people were injured. The string of events were reported local police about 2.30pm.

Police said 55-year-old Virote Wongdet-anant's white Toyota Fortuner first smashed into a car, knocking it off the local road, Highway 3245, in Moo 1 village of tambon Muang Kao. Two people in the car were injured.

He fled, accelerating away from the scene, but about a kilometre down the road he ran into a blue Isuzu pickup truck, which then hit a white Nissan Sunny sedan. The Fortuner itself ran off the road and crashed into a fried banana stall, completely destroying it.

Altogether six other people were injured, including the banana vendor.

The Fortuner, registered in Chachoengsao, turned over and came to rest upside down in the middle of the highway.

Virote's dead body was trapped inside. He was a native of Phanom Sarakham district and elder brother of the director of a local hospital.
