A 27-year-old woman who died during a fire at her singer-boyfriend's house on Sunday night had most likely succumbed to smoke inhalation, and not been murdered as her father suspected, a police spokesman said on Tuesday.

Pol Col Krisana Patanacharoen said a post-mortem examination at Bhumibol Adulyadej Hospital found no trace of physical assault on the body of Supanee Sin-anantrakul, found dead in the second floor bathroom after a fire at the house of Pongpet Sinsuwan, a singer with the band Bangkaew.

With no sign of injury, police for the present assumed she had died of smoke inhalation, the deputy police spokesman said. A full autopsy would follow.

He said investigators learned there were eight people in the house in Thanya Thanee housing estate in Lam Luk Ka district of Pathum Thani late on Sunday night. They included Supanee and her boyfriend's family.

The fire started in the prayer room on the second floor, near where Supanee was taking a bath. She had apparently been unable to escape.

Earlier media reports said Supanee's father suspected she was murdered. He said she lived in Pongpet's home against the wishes of her family, and had complained about being beaten.

Pol Col Krisana said police were still investigating, and awaiting a full autopsy report from the hospital.
