One dead, one missing when boat capsizes off Tarutao

SATUN: One man died, seven were rescued and one remained missing when a boat carrying nine people sank off Koh Tarutao on Saturday morning. A search continued for the missing man.

The Kanwaree, rented by seven residents in Yala and Songkhla for fishing, left Kalanyeetan pier in Muang district of Satun on Friday evening. The boat owner and another crewman were also on board. 

The vessel sank in the east of Tarutao island at around 9am on Saturday, Thai media reported. All people were thrown off the vessel.

Marine police, soldiers and local fishermen were deployed to help the victims. Seven men, including the boat owner and the crewman, were rescued while two went missing.  One of the missing men was later found dead.

Satun governor Jaruwat Kliangklao said the dead victim was found near the scene. The search continued for the missing person.

Police were investigating the cause of the incident.
