King awards 187 for rescue

A total of 187 people have been granted royal decorations from His Majesty the King for their role in the rescue of the Wild Boars football team and their coach, according to the PM's Office.

The announcement was published in the Royal Gazette on Thursday.

Those honoured, include 115 foreigners, who will be granted the Most Admirable Order of Direkgunabhorn.

The foreigners include people from the the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, China, Germany, Japan, Singapore, Ukraine and Laos.

"The government recognises that those people who helped those in peril performed good deeds and deserved to be honoured," the announcement reads. The administration sought the King's approval to bestow the decoration.

The 12 boys, aged 11-16, and their 25-year-old coach entered the cave complex in Tham Luang-Khun Nam Nang Non Forest Park in Chiang Rai on June 23 and soon became trapped by rapidly rising floodwater. They were rescued from the cave from July 8-10.
