Five Indian nationals who had just arrived in Thailand on holiday were injured when the passenger van they were in rear-ended an 18-wheeler on Monday morning, police said.

The accident occurred around 6am on Highway 7 in Bang Lamung district of Chon Buri, Pol Lt Col Suyin Inthachuay, of Khao Khiew highway police station, said.

Van driver Sorapong Inthon was taking the five tourists from Suvarnabhumi airport to Pattaya. olice suspected the van driver fell asleep behind the wheel. Police suspect he fell asleep at the wheel.

Truck driver Wutthiokorn Sorntham told police he was going up a rise in the road at the time, and suddenly felt something hit the back of his vehicle.

The injured tourists were taken to Bangkok Hospital in Pattaya.
