BPP copter crashes in Kanchanaburi

A border patrol police helicopter with the Princess Mother's Medical Volunteer team members on board crashed while lifting off in Sangkhla Buri district of Kanchanaburi province on Thursday morning. Two nurses were injured, reports said.

The helicopter of the 134th BPP Unit had flown a team of PMMV staff to Ban Laipa in tambon Lai Wo of Sangkhla Buri district to give medical treatment to villagers. The team comprised doctors and nurses from Sangkhla Buri Hospital.

At about 9am after the team finished its mission, the helicopter with the medical staff on board took off from the village, heading back to Sangkhla Buri. After rising 15-20m above the ground, the aircraft suddenly developed engine trouble and crashed landed.

The helicopter was damaged and two female nurses sustained head wounds.

The two pilots, the engineer and other members of the medical team escaped unhurt.

Another helicopter was despatched to take the team from the site at about 2pm.
