Foreign embassy observer doubts

Foreign embassy observer doubts

No foreign embassies have contacted the Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD) about observing the procedure today when Future Forward Party (FFP) secretary-general Piyabutr Saengkanokkul turns up to acknowledge computer crimes and contempt of court charges against him, says a senior TCSD officer.

Pol Col Siriwat Deepor, deputy commander of the TCSD, said Mr Piyabutr's lawyer has confirmed he and his client will show up at the TCSD to hear the charges at 10am. However, the division has received no contact from foreign embassies about the planned meeting between investigators and Mr Piyabutr. He was asked about reports that foreign observers plan to be present during the procedure.

Mr Piyabutr's meeting with police is being watched after several foreign diplomats turned up to observe a similar procedure involving FFP leader Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit when he reported to Pathumwan police on April 6.

The move drew strong reactions from the Foreign Ministry which said they were interfering in the country's internal affairs.

Western diplomatic missions insisted they were observing standard practice. Earlier, FFP spokeswoman Pannika Wanich said foreign embassies had asked to observe today's events.
