The Future Forward Party (FFP) wants the Constitutional Court to suspend 30 MPs, mostly from the Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP), pending a judgement on their alleged holding of shares in media companies.
Eighty FFP MPs filed the complaint at the new parliamentary complex on Tuesday. Leading the group, FFP secretary-general Piyabutr Saengkanokkul said his party had found that 30 MPs had held shares of media companies in a manner that could affect their MP status -- 27 from PPRP and one each from the Action Coalition for Thailand, People Progressive and Chart Pattana parties.
"Before the Constitutional Court's resolution to accept a complaint and suspend Mr Thanathorn's MP duties, I told the press that we reserve the right to file similar complaints against MPs, who are prohibited from holding media shares," Mr Piyabutr said.
FFP addressed their complaint to Parliament President Chuan Leekpai. Mr Piyabutr said he hoped Mr Chuan would forward the complaint to the Constitutional Court right away because the complaint was signed by one-tenth of House representatives.
"If the same standard is applied, the Constitutional Court might receive the complaint in seven days and suspend the duties of the 30 MPs too," the FFP secretary-general said. He did not elaborate on the names.
The court suspended Mr Thanathorn from his MP duties on May 23 pending its consideration of a case in which he was accused of holding shares in a media company while applying for MP candidacy in the lead-up to the March 24 election.
FFP has also asked the parliament to review the qualifications of prime ministerial candidates before a vote on the next prime minister.
