About 30 opposition MPs are lining up to grill Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and three cabinet ministers in the three-day censure debate which begins on Sunday, opposition leader Abhisit Vejjajiva said yesterday.
The last two days of the no-confidence debate would be reserved for debating against Ms Yingluck alone while the first would be spent debating against Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung, Defence Minister Sukumpol Suwanatat, and Deputy Interior Minister Chatt Kuldiloke in his former capacity as a deputy transport minister.
Mr Abhisit encouraged members of the public to follow the debate so that they would know how serious the government's failures and the corruption situation actually were.
The opposition had important information to divulge about the government's failed policies and graft-plagued schemes, Mr Abhisit said.
The debate plan was well-organised and broken neatly into categories to make it easier for both the opposition to debate and for the government to respond to queries, he said.
Mr Abhisit said the opposition would not be able to control government MPs who might raise objections to censure allegations as a way to interrupt the debate.
The opposition leader said he would steer clear of a debate against ACM Sukumpol over the Defence Ministry's decision to strip him of military rank as the matter is being considered in court.
The case involves ACM Sukumpol's order revoking the opposition leader of his military rank and recalling his salary on the grounds that Mr Abhisit allegedly used fraudulent documents to apply for and obtain a job as a lecturer at Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy.
The teaching job exempted Mr Abhisit from military conscription in 1987. Mr Abhisit filed a petition with the Administrative Court over the rank removal and both were summoned to give statements to the court on Wednesday.
The court has deferred considering whether to accept Mr Abhisit's petition.
Responding to concerns over the anti-government rally by Pitak Siam tomorrow, Mr Abhisit said even if the demonstration gets out of hand and affects the debate, it would still be possible to extend the House session so the debate could be held at a later stage.
