In-form Brazilian forward Leandro Assumpcao netted the opening goal after 57 minutes and defender Theerathon Bunmathan scored against his former club in the 69th minute.

In another match, Police Tero reached the semi-finals with a 1-0 win over Air Force Central, the only Thai League 2 side in the quarter-finals, with Phichitphong Cheuichiu scoring the winner.

Muang Thong and Buriram were declared League Cup joint-winners last year after the final was cancelled following the passing away of King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

At I-Mobile Stadium, Buriram had several chances but efforts by Brazilian duo Diogo Luis Santo and Jakson Coelho were denied by Muang Thong goalkeeper Kawin Thamsatchanan.

Meanwhile, Buriram face another tough assignment as they travel to Chiang Rai United in the FA Cup quarter-finals after the draw was made on Wednesday.

In other matches, PTT Rayong host Muang Thong, JL Chiang Mai face Nong Bua Pichaya, and Sukhothai meet Bangkok United.

The quarter-finals are scheduled for Oct 18.
