Unseeded Nehwal sets up showdown with Tai

Ratchanok Intanon's bid to win back-to-back World Tour Super 500 titles ended at the hands of Saina Nehwal yesterday.

The Thai fourth seed went down to unseeded Nehwal of India in straight games 19-21, 19-21 in the women's singles semi-finals of the Indonesia Masters in Jakarta.

World No.4 Ratchanok won her first title of the year at the Malaysia Masters last Sunday.

Nehwal, currently ranked 12th in the world, will play top seed Tai Tzu-ying in today's title match of the US$350,000 BWF tournament at the Istota Senayan stadium.

World No.1 Tai rallied to defeat eighth seed He Bingjiao of China 19-21, 21-15, 21-15 in the second semi-final yesterday.

Tai will hope to go one step further this week after losing to Ratchanok in the title match in Kuala Lumpur a week ago.

They play Chinese second seeds Li Junhui and Liu Yuchen, who defeated third-seeded compatriots Liu Cheng and Zhang Nan 26-24, 14-21, 21-12 in the second semi-final yesterday.

Eighth seeds Greysia Polii and Apriyani Rahayu of Indonesia reached the women's doubles decider after knocking out fifth seeds Lee So-Hee and Shin Seung-Chan of South Korea 21-11, 17-21, 21-17.

Top seeds Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir defeated fellow Indonesians Praveen Jordan and Melati Daeva Oktavianti 22-20, 21-17 to reach the mixed doubles final.
