Defending champions Buriram United needed a stroke of luck to score their second straight Thai League 1 win of the season, edging Bangkok Glass 1-0 at their home ground on Sunday night.

The winner for the Thunder Castle came in a dramatic fashion in the 72nd minute.

Bangkok Glass goalkeeper Narit Taweekul punched back a corner for Buriram striker Diogo Luis Santo to fire a sizzling volley which was headed off the line by Surachat Sareepim. However, Surachat's header rammed into the back of Narit and the ball bounced back into the net to give Buriram the match's only goal.

Elsewhere last night, leading contenders Chiang Rai United continued their indifferent form and were stunned 2-0 by Sukhothai, who scored through Nelson Bonilla and Njiva Rakotoharimalala in the second half.

Hosts Ratchaburi were staring at another winless outing under new coach Christian Ziege but newly promoted Air Force Central gifted them the winner that made amends for their last week's loss at Buriram to some extent.

Air Force defender Wanchai Jarunongkran became the subject of his teammates' stares in the 70th minute when he deflected the ball into his own net.

PT Prachuap, playing in the top flight for the first time in the club's history, fancied another upset for over half an hour before conceding three goals to lose 3-1 to Ubon UMT United last night.

Prachuap, who shocked Police Tero 3-2 in their first game, went ahead through Amorn Thammanarm in the 12th minute. They held on to the lead until it was cancelled out by Ubon skipper Wuttichai Tathong in the dying moments of the first half.

Aguinaldo Veiga and Piyachart Tamaphan added two more to the Ubon scoreline in the second half.

In Saturday night's late game, Bangkok United picked up their first league win of the year when they edged Police Tero 2-1 in a hotly contested clash at Dhupatemiya Stadium where four yellow card warnings were issued.

Bangkok United, one of the most active teams in the transfer market ahead of the start of the season, were anxious for a win after losing their opening game to last year's runners-up SCG Muang Thong United a week ago.

They took the field as favourites but the match turned out to be a toil for the capital side who found themselves on the receiving end 10 minutes into the second half when Marcos Vinicius struck home for Police.

Midfielder Sumanya Purisai kicked off the rescue act at 78 minutes by levelling the score and Ekkachai Sumrei completed the mission with the match-winning goal two minutes from time.
