>>Former Thai League 1 champions SCG Muang Thong United yesterday unveiled prolific Myanmar striker Aung Thu as one of their new players for the 2019 season.

Aung Thu, who had an impressive spell with relegated Police Tero in the top flight last season, has been signed by the Kirins on a loan deal from Myanmar club Yadanarbon.

In his 28 appearances for Police Tero this year, Aung Thu had a tally of 11 goals and was also instrumental in providing many assists.

Apart from starring for the national side, the 22-year-old forward has also represented Myanmar in different age group competitions, including the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia.

Before joining Police on loan for the 2018 season, Aung Thu was voted as the best player year of the Myanmar National League for two years in a row.

Aung Thu, who will be donning the No.9 shirt for the Kirins, said: "It is a great feeling to become a part of one of the top clubs in Thailand.

"Muang Thong United are a big club and they have some quality players. They also have an exceptionally huge fan base.

"It's a big challenge for me. First I'll strive to seal my place in the team and then try to perform better than the last season."

Muang Thong United director Ronnarit Suewaja said: "Aung Thu is an important addition to our team, giving us more firepower in attack.

"He is one of the most promising players in the Southeast Asian region and he will be our Asean player in the team."

Aung Thu will be competing with Thailand striker Adisak Kraisorn and Brazilian forwards Heberty Fernandes and Jaja Coelho for a place in the starting line-up of the team managed by new coach Phairoj Bovornwattanadilok.
