Top-flight club Port chairperson Nualphan Lamsam yesterday announced that her team would enter the 2019 season with eight new players.

Nualphan, known as Madame Pang to the local football fans, said the club is keen on launching a formidable challenge to Thai League 1 winners Buriram United's domination of the competition.

Port finished third in the 2018 season, 26 points behind the Thunder Castle.

"The 2019 season will be my fifth year as the person in charge of Port and I have been trying to improve the club all the time," said Nualphan.

"This year, the staff coaches and I agreed that we need fresh talents in almost every position to improve our results. Now, we have signed the players who we believe can help us reach our goal."

The eight new members of the team are: midfielders Go Seul-Ki (from Buriram United), Sumanya Purisay (True Bangkok United), Sansern Limwattana (Sukhothai), defender Ernesto Poomipa (Air Force United), striker Pinyo Inpinit (Police Tero), and three up-and-coming players from Leicester City's Fox Hunt project, Anon Samakorn, Jitrattikarn Wapilai and Nattchanon Sroijitr.

"I am confident that these players have great potential and are capable of guiding us to success," Nualphan added.

"This is a New Year present for our fans. I am hoping that 2019 will be our year and we will fight together to succeed."

Among the eight players, Sumanya is the biggest name who won the Football Association of Thailand's 2018 Thai League 1 MVP award.

The midfielder is in the United Arab Emirates with the Thai national team for the Asian Cup.

Meanwhile, Diogo Luis Santo has posted a farewell message on his Facebook page, thanking the Thai football fans and Buriram United supporters.

Malaysia's Super League champions Johor Darul Ta'zim announced the signing of the Thai League 1 champions' top striker on Thursday.

The Brazilian was the highest scorer in Thai League 1 last season and named the country's best foreign player of the year.

"I would like to thank the Thai people for the support they gave me and my family at every juncture and made us feel at home all the time," wrote Diogo.
