Struggling former Thai League 1 champions SCG Muang Thong United officially announced Alexandre Gama as their new head coach on Thursday.

The Brazilian has been handed a two-year contract with an option to extend.

Muang Thong United director Ronnarit Suewaja said Gama had the experience to help pull the Kirins out of the three-team relegation zone.

"We are happy that Alexandre Gama has agreed to work with us," said Ronnarit.

"He is one of the most successful coaches in Thailand and we have faith in his experience and abilities. We believe that he is the coach who suits our style."

Gama enjoyed great success with Thai League 1 giants Buriram United and also helped Chiang Rai United claim two domestic titles last season before taking over as the Thailand U23 national team coach.

Gama said: "I feel very excited. It is a challenging job to be the coach of Muang Thong United.

"When I received the proposal from the club, I did not hesitate at all in saying yes.

"I have had a lot of success in Thailand, winning all domestic tournaments. I believe that Muang Thong will bounce back and taste success again.

"My first task is to help Muang Thong come out of their current situation and reach the level they used to be at before. It puts me under a lot of pressure, but I like it."

Gama -- the Kirins' third coach this season after Phairoj Bovornwattanadilok and Yoon Jung-Hwan -- will start his stint with Muang Thong this Sunday, when the former champions face Chonburi in an away league match.
