The construction of the Orange Line electric rail system will start at 10pm on Friday with the closure of sections of one traffic lane on both inbound and outbound sides of Ramkhamhaeng Road.

The lanes immediatly next to the middle road island will be closed at two places - for about 300 metres between Khong Saphan Sueng and Ramkhamhaeng Soi 139, and another 300m between Ramkhamhaeng Soi 193 and Soi199.

Traffic lanes will be reduced to two on each side of the road, but traffic police expect only low impact as there is no bottleneck along those stretches of road.

Parking will be prohibited along the affected sections at all times, deputy city police chief Pol Maj Gen Chiraphat Phumichit said.

The contractor will put up barriers in order to lay the foundation for the elevated train for the section between Khlong Ban Ma and Suvinthawong. The Orange Line will run between Thaling Chan in Thon Buri area and Min Buri, but the section to be built under this project will end at the Thailand Cultural Centre in Rama IX area.

Project deputy director Kittikorn Tanpao said the contractor will test the soil quality for two months in the marked areas. The work will later expand to cover the whole 8.8km elevated section. A total of seven stations will be built. They are Sammakorn, Nom Klao, Rat Phattana, Min Phattana, Kheha Ramkhamhaeng, Min Buri and Suvinthawong. Construction is due for completion by Oct 2, 2022 - a period of 1,980 days.
