BTS apologises for train door opening in transit

Bangkok Mass Transit System Plc (BTSC) apologised Friday after a door of one of its BTS Skytrains opened while the train was in motion between stations on Thursday.

Witnesses said, and the Skytrain officials confirmed, that a door on one car "accidentally" opened while the train was en route between Mo Chit and Saphan Khwai stations during Thursday morning's commuter rush hour.

No casualties occurred, and the BTS said the door had been fixed.

The operator of the BTS electric train service was unaware of the accident until it was informed by passengers. BTS Skytrain maintains a Line chat app account for two-way communications with customers.

The official version states that BTS train number 14 was moving from the Mo Chit station to the following Saphan Khwai station at about 7.30am Thursday when passengers saw the door open.

At the Saphan Khwai station, passengers informed attendants, who called techniciansto fix the door within two minutes.

The statement gave no details on why the accident occurred or what action it took to prevent future incidents. It said that the company prioritised passenger safety and took the incident seriously. But the BTSC statement said only that it had checked the door of the train and "repaired it to prevent the incident from recurring.

"BTS sincerely apologises for the incident," the statement said. "And please do not lean on train doors during trips. Warning signs are attached to the doors of all 208 carriages for safety," BTSC said.
