The project to roll out the Mangmoom, or "spider" cards, which will allow commuters to travel in Bangkok and surrounding areas via multiple modes of transport using a single ticket, has now been postponed until September, according to SRT Electric Train Co, the operator of the Airport Rail Link.
The launch of the Mangmoom ticketing system, originally scheduled for this month, has been postponed due to technical problems with installing the system and an unsettled agreement over the sharing of revenue from ticket sales between three parties, said SRT Electric Train director-general Suthep Panpeng.
The parties concerned are the Airport Rail Link (ARL) operator, Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) and the company supplying the new ticketing service, he said. The security measures for the new ticketing system are also still in the process of being drawn up, he added.
Meanwhile, about 4,000 people are using the ARL service using state welfare cards, according to Mr Suthep.
More people have taken advantage of the cards, which allow holders to access the ARL service.
The rail operator has estimated that about 4,000 out of about 90,000 passengers per day are paying for the service with the welfare cards, he said.
The ARL has also spent over 400,000 baht on 16 portable wheelchair ramps at eight stations, he added.
