Bad guys have assets

According to the latest poll I read the number one thing the people want is for the government to keep the free health care system.

The government, on the other hand, seems unwilling to increase taxes on the rich which would in effect be taxing themselves to pay for it, so I would like to suggest that they try a little harder to track down the money of these big time drug traffickers.

They seem to be so rich that they can lose 18 million metamphetamine pills and about 100 kilogrammes in crystal meth in just two weeks without apparently feeling any pain.

These people this rich must have assets in Thailand.

So I am suggesting the government work a little harder at identifying their assets and confiscating them and perhaps help fund the healthcare system and increase their popularity which appears to be pretty much in the toilet these days.

Restrained soldier

It was interesting to note from the picture of Britain's Prince Harry, which graced the front page of the Bangkok Post on Sunday, that he was displaying just three medal ribbons on his military uniform jacket after a distinguished 10-year career in the armed forces.

I guess Thailand's military and police, whose uniforms are emblazoned with long strips of medal ribbons, get them by the metre from uniform suppliers?

Guilty retractions

Re: "Subscribing to the truth", (PostBag, May 20).

PG trusts The New York Times, the Washington Post and mistrusts Fox News. All these will reliably report on a plane crash or an earthquake. But when it comes to politics or news with political implications, the NYT and WaPo are biased liberal-globalist organisations and Fox is unquestionably conservative.

Perhaps PG remembers when the Russians hacked the US power grid? Well, The Washington Post had to retract that fiction. Or remember the fact that "17 intelligence agencies confirmed Russians hacked the Democratic National Committee"? The New York Times was forced to retract that lie. How about the idea, published by Fox, that Seth Rich's murder was connected to the DNC leaks? Retracted.

Ducking for cover

In his letter, "Subscribing to the truth," PG suggests news sources in print, (in this case, online), must be so reliable that their news is trustworthy and unimpeachable. Did PG ever hear of wire services, AFP among them?

I doubt if the Bangkok Post, for example, has a foreign war correspondent on site in Syria. The New York Times, The Washington Post, plus many other reliable newspapers have their own overseas offices, but still use wire services to obtain much of their news from global hotspots or areas where their reporters are refused entry, or are smart enough not to be present in person.

Just common sense

Re: "Bias in the PostBag", (PostBag, May 20).

Martin R warns PostBag writers about my letters because they differ from his opinions which are based on the reporting of the mainstream media. The White Helmets have been caught a few times staging rescue events, the latest being the alleged gas attack in Douma.

A young boy, seen in the movie, came to testify at the OPCW headquarters in The Hague, yet the mainstream media chose not to publish this news. When HHB writes that it does not make sense for Mr Assad to gas his own people, it's just that, common sense, something many readers of the mainstream media lack. On the other hand, by looking at who benefits from this crime, look no further at who wants to continue the war in Syria. As for Snopes, it belongs to the notorious George Soros, so I suggest Martin R read it with a large pinch of salt.
