Future uncertain

Re: "Way off target" and "Yank cranks", (PostBag, June 26).

It reads like June 26 is bash America day. Tarquin Chufflebottom and Nick Nicholson hit the nail on the head when they described my brother Americans to a tee -- Yes sir, we are all that.

I know one fellow American who lost his daughter when in a panic he fired through his bedroom door at what he thought was an intruder and I have run across folks who had relatives who died by suicide by firearm. Yes sir we have ourselves a mess of guns. And we love 'em.

We still live with misinformation forwarded up through the years about our beloved George Washington. Our pillage of tea bags in Boston right through the killings of our neighbours; the Native-Born Americans. We pretend not to see whenever we can the blacklisting of our black brethren who we forced to labour in the hot sun of the land of the free. We have even gone so far as to blacklist Woody Guthrie's song, This Land is your Land because there was a bit of a concern ol' Woody had communist leanings.

Lately, we have overlooked the recalcitrant behaviour of our beloved Hillary and the folks from the Biden family. Some of us have suffered from having to listen to Trump too much. It balances out.

I don't know what will happen "worldwide" in the next few years. I suggest you all re-examine your own birth country and try to prepare yourself for what is coming to a neighbourhood near you. Don't worry about us.

Re: "Ganja convicts set for release", (BP, June 4).

In one of the less-reported bizarre aspects of the legalisation/decriminalisation of marijuana in Thailand is the decision by the Royal Thai Police to return 16 tonnes of weed seized in the last seven months from almost 4,000 drug offenders recently released from prison as rightfully their property.

I have some sympathy for those who question why the stuff wasn't burned when no longer needed for evidence but have total confidence that the RTP's cataloguing and storage logistics.

I leave it to better minds than mine to ponder how that is going to work, but suspect that a "search and administration fee" will facilitate the process.

Re: "Not just an opinion", (PostBag, June 18) and "No big toe worries", (PostBag, June 15).

While it would be easy to just dismiss what a recent letter by Michael Setter says, the fact is that he does have a point about Covid-19 vaccines causing various side effects, many of which we still do not know.

For instance, Canadian Pop Singer Justin Bieber has now become a cause celebre on social media and by anti-vaxxers in the US after it was found that he suffers from a rare illness called Ramsay Hunt Syndrome, something which causes facial paralysis. Furthermore, his wife Hailey Bieber recently had a blood clot in her brain, another condition which has been attributed to the use of Covid-19 vaccines.

And it is now a well-known fact that Covid vaccines in particular have been known to have a detrimental effect on the heart rates of teenage boys, causing even the deaths of students while merely practising on basketball courts or football fields.
