'Sudden' interest

Re: "PM wants 'Boss' found," (BP, Dec 28).

I read this article shaking my head in disbelief at the insincerity of the prime minister's belated demands that police find Boss and bring him back to Thailand to face the courts. Boss hit and killed a police officer in 2012. Prime Minister Prayut seized power in the coup of 2014. That means he has had eight years to put the boot into the behind of the otiose police, but he has not done so until now. You have to ask why he now suddenly shows interest in the case.

Incidentally, Boss is not in "hiding" as reported in your article. True he fled Thailand to avoid the consequences of his acts, but he is hardly "hiding" when foreign journalists can easily find him and photograph him drinking champagne at the races and continuing to live the lavish lifestyle that only his family's fortunes can afford.

Foul mouths

Re: "Forum on the nose," (PostBag, Dec 27).

I couldn't agree more with Fred Prager. On the Postbag and online forum, my critics are for the most part libellous and have engaged in slandering instead of rational debate.

They've called me gay (I'm not), a self-loathing Jew, mentally ill, friendless or even quote me so far out of context that they might as well have been lying. The real issue is they virtually never use their real names, to protect themselves from lawsuits.

Despite this, I still think it's hypocritical to tell people not to use dirty, filthy language.

They are allowed to do so as long as they abbreviate it. For example, do you really expect me to believe that the moderators don't know what POS stands for? This situation is out of control and these forums are now 10 feet below the sewer.

The great ban

Re: "Forum on the nose," (PostBag, Dec 27).

An interesting letter from Fred Prager regarding the online forum and one that I can certainly relate to.

I am careful to avoid all those things in the disclaimer and having been a regular contributor to both comments and letters I have suddenly found myself banned from online comments with no reason being given.

So there you have it Fred Prager, the Bangkok Post does ban writers, just not the ones you think need to be banned.

We must act now

Re:"Echoing the impacts," (PostBag, Dec 25).

It's bad enough that global warming is destroying the entire planet and countless human lives; but if what Sheldon Shaeffer is saying about global warming disproportionally affecting the youngest of children, such as newborns is true, we should do whatever is necessary to mitigate the damages done by humans in polluting the earth.
