Thailand international Tanaboon Kesarat has joined Thai League 1 leaders Port, the club announced on Thursday.

Port bought the midfielder from Thai League 2 side BG Pathum United, formerly Bangkok Glass, for an undisclosed fee.

Defender Piyachanok Darit also joined Port on loan from BG Pathum.

Port chairperson Nualphan Lamsam said the duo would make her team stronger.

"I hope they will be able to help bring success to our team," said Nualphan.

Tanaboon, 25, is one of Thailand's best defensive midfielders at the moment.

He moved from SCG Muang Thong United to Chiang Rai United for a reported record fee of 50 million baht in 2017.

But he suffered a long-term injury and was sold to BG Pathum last year.

Meanwhile, Port are now six points clear in Thai League 1 after beating Chiangmai at PAT Stadium on Wednesday night.

The win came after defending champions Buriram United suffered a shock 2-1 loss at relegation contenders Chainat.

Following a scoreless first half, Port raced to a 3-0 lead in the second half with goals from Dragan Boskovic (47th minute), Sumanya Purisay (61) and Siwakorn Jakkuprasert (65).

Chiangmai got a consolation goal from Ekkarit Panya.

In Wednesday's other late game, Saharat Kanyaroj scored the winner in the 87th minute in PTT Rayong's 1-0 victory over Chonburi.

Port have 28 points, six ahead of True Bangkok United, Samut Prakan, Buriram and Chiang Rai.

Buriram, who have two games in hand, will play Sukhothai tomorrow before the league takes a break for the King's Cup to be held at Chang Arena from June 5-8.
